Launching the WI.DE. 2.0
Here's today's press release - more to follow soon, feel free to ask questions at the bottom!
Launching the OPEN WI.DE. 2.0 Basel/Monterey, April 16, 2026
Introduction
Ten years ago at SeaOtter, OPEN launched the first performance gravel bike. That U.P. launch was probably the most exciting we've ever done — media, product managers from other brands and loads of riders crowded our tiny booth from start to finish.
We explained that the U.P. gave you the rider position to go fast (like a road bike) and the tires take care of the terrain”. Sounds so logical today, but not 10 years ago. Not to mention the dropped chainstay, the direct-mount brakes without any adaptors and the dual wheel size options.
This year we're back at SeaOtter with the WI.DE. 2.0. Where the U.P. (and now U.P. 2.0 and U.P.PER. 2.0) are built for fast gravel terrain, the WI.DE. is built for terrain most people wouldn't consider rideable at all. The goal is the same: keep the rider fast, let the tires handle the trouble. The original WI.DE. took off far beyond our expectations — turns out there are a lot of bad roads, and a lot of people who want to ride them fast. Time for V2.0.
It starts with the tires
As always, we start with the tires. The WI.DE. 2.0 fits up to 700x66mm (29x2.6") — as good tires in bigger sizes (both gravel and XC MTB) are becoming more plentiful in the market.
Going from 50mm to 66mm nearly doubles the air volume inside the tire. Use that volume to protect your rims from rocks and roots, to lower pressure for more grip, or both.
Fitting tires this size into a compact, stiff and agile frame was a challenge. The result is marginally lighter than its predecessor and handles even more extreme terrain.
Double chainstay drop
The original U.P. introduced the single dropped chainstay. The original WI.DE. doubled down with a carbon box structure behind the BB for clearance and stiffness. The WI.DE. 2.0 takes this further still — by designing specifically around modern gravel drivetrains and dropping compatibility with older setups (e.g. 2x), we've maximized the space for tires and chainstays to create even more clearance.
U-Turn AC/DC+ Fork
Where the U.P.|U.P.PER. 2.0 offers separate aero and cargo forks, the WI.DE. 2.0 combines both into one: the U-Turn AC/DC+ (Aero Cargo Double Combo). At this tire volume, one fork can do it all — so you get full aero plus our patent-pending cargo slots in a single fork.
As with our other cargo forks: strap bags directly to the fork legs, no cage required. Prefer a cage for water bottles or specific cargo? Use the included cargo barrels.
More storage
The WI.DE. 2.0 has the most cargo-carrying options of any OPEN to date. Cargo slots on the fork, direct-mount frame bag compatibility (custom bag makers supported; OPEN aero frame bag coming Fall 2026), and two storage bags inside the downtube, secured with the Fitlock© locking mechanism.
Additional rivnuts under the BB, two on the toptube just behind the stem for a toptube bag, and — if you prefer a full-length toptube — a third rivnut near the seattube for added stability. Standard and custom toptube bag options will be available.
A.I.R. Geometry
The WI.DE. 2.0 follows the OPEN A.I.R. philosophy: agile, integrated, refined. The steering geometry keeps handling razor-sharp — with your eyes closed (not recommended!) you might think you're on a road bike, not a bike running 66mm tires. Frames are slightly longer and taller than their predecessors, paired with the OPEN B.A.R. system to easily dial in your perfect fit.
Made in Freedom
Like all OPEN 2.0 products, the WI.DE. 2.0 is part of our Made in Freedom project. A few years ago we decided that freedom needed to permeate everything we do — because for us, freedom is the essence of cycling. We moved all production to countries that score well in established democracy rankings (The Economist Democracy Index, Freedom House's Freedom in the World report).
We know this topic has many angles, and that's fine. We do this because we want to, and because we have the freedom to choose. This isn't a virtue competition — everyone should run their lives and businesses as they see fit. We just know how we want to run ours. The WI.DE. 2.0 frame is built in Portugal.
Availability & more info
The WI.DE. 2.0 goes into production now and ships towards summer. Orders open mid-May, with priority for loyal customers.

Can you use standard round handlebar and separate stems with the new open wide 2.0? Would love the aero handlebar but I have accessories (tailfin handlebar bag) and clip-on aerobars for bikepacking and ultras
Is it possible to externally route the cockpit? It makes it so much easier to transport the bike by turning or removing the bars, and means a much wider choice of smaller bike boxes and bags. I looked at the brake routing video and it wasn't clear (to me) from that...
Could you ride it with 27.5x2.6 or would that not work?
can the internal routing accommodate a cable actuated dropper post?
Lovely design, beautiful colour. Thanks for bringing a new WI.DE But as Mark and Dennis have already said: Please bring the frame storage to the U.P. ... IMHO its integration does not contradict minimalism - at least not visually. If the lid was painted in framecolour it would fully disappear visually. And for the weight argument: it would make a lot of sense to leave it away on the U.P.PER, while bringing it to the U.P. (Adventure) On the drivetrain compatibility: - You say: "...dropping compatibility with older setups (e.g. 2x)" - You also say that compatible groupsets include "All SRAM AXS" and "All Shimano GRX Di2" (noting the "all") So, are GRX and AXS 2x options possible? (when not going for maximum tire width)
Apologies Sebsan, that was a bit sloppy on my side in the specs. There is no front derailleur mount, so no 2x options. On the storage, I hear your point but it's just not feasible to put the storage on the UP|UPPER 2.0.
Will the fork be available separately? Could be a nice update for the previous model
Hi Robert, with the geometry, it's not a great fit for the old frame. And you'd have nowhere to route the cables.
fantastic! will there be an option to use other handlebars?
Hi Albert, no different system of handlebars, but more handlebars using the same system - yes.
to be more specific: e.g. a B.A.R. stem only?
Are the bars suitable to run aerobars?
The OPEN BAR at the moment is not approved for aerobars. But options are coming.
OPEN M.I.N.D Please 🙏 When
More on that soon. though Maybe not the news you are looking for. but Andy and I first have to make up our mind (no pun intended).
Not designed for a mechanical gear system (cable routing and opening on the chainstay/drive side)?!? Lost.
The cable routing and exit makes it compatible with previous generation GRX Di2.
Hi Gerard. It seems that you have now found a solution for the storage in the down tube that you are happy with. Are there any plans to integrate the storage into the UP 2.0 / UPPER 2.0 as well? If so, do you have a timeline in mind? Thanks
The plan is to keep the UP|UPPER 2.0 more minimalist. So no timeline for such a change.
Without geometric information, this "announcement" is completely useless... !
I would agree, hence the link to the product page with all that info in the article. For those who missed it, here it is again: https://opencycle.com/wide-20

I’m already looking forward to building this new Wi.De with big tires that will further unlock the potential of this iconic bike.
I think it's an exciting bike to spec out, so many unusual tire and drivetrain choices possible here, that will make it fun.
Wow! Hope you guys continue the Turquoise color!
I'm not sure yet, launch color is Platinum grey, nothing decided beyond that.
Any plans to expand the storage-option of the downtube to the U.P. 2.0 (eg Adventure)?
Hi Dennis, as it stands right now, the UP/UPPER stay more minimalist in that regard.
Great Job! Will the AC/DC have a Dynamo option?
It can certainly be used with a dynamo hub quite easily, there are vent holes that can be used for the cable routing.
Congrats guys! I've loved my WI.DE every minute since I got it 6+ years ago (that's a tall order for me.) The 2.0 addresses everything that was on my wish list. Droool....
Hi Biggsie, glad to hear!
Nice!
All the info is already on the WI.DE. Page under BIKES in the menu.
Exciting? When would geometry charts be available? What is the maximum chainring size the frame can accommodate?
All info here: https://opencycle.com/wide-20
"Frames are slightly longer and taller than their predecessors, paired with the OPEN B.A.R. system to easily dial in your perfect fit."
will the geometry be the same as original WIDE? reach, stack etc?
