Riding & Racing at top speed The new UP & UPPER

10 years after the OPEN U.P. defined the gravel bike, we have perfected it.

The new UP & UPPER will come in several versions. First up: the U.P.PER. CONCE.PT.

This is a very different OPEN, yet it answers the same question: What do we want to ride?

U.P. 2.0 versus U.P.PER. 2.0

We love fork design. Tire clearance, steering geo, aero, compliance, cargo, braking efficiency - it's all there.
U.P.(PER) 2.0 has 2 styles in 5 sizes.

All frames are made in Portugal and tested to the same strength and stiffness standards. The U.P.PER 2.0 just uses a different, ultralight layup.
All frames have cargo rivnuts for a toptube bag and under-the-BB storage, U.P. 2.0 & U.P. 2.0 Adventure have 3 extra rivnuts UNDER the toptube for a frame bag. The Adventure version also has cargo options on the fork.
The U.P. 2.0 & U.P. 2.0 Adventure come in various colors, the U.P.PER 2.0 is always predominantly black. All are available in Raw-Ready-to-paint for custom painting. Check here for all options.

Aero where it matters,
Comfort where it counts.

But aero is irrelevant if the bike is too uncomfortable to hold your position on the bike. That’s why we optimize frame aerodynamics and compliance together, creating aero shapes without making our tubes too deep. In places where a deeper tube is very beneficial (at the headtube or the fork legs for example), we tune the shape and layup to still preserve the compliance.
As we go further back on the frame, the balance between aero and comfort is no contest. The seattube, chainstays and seatstays ensure we achieve the comfort we’re known for. As a bonus, the ultra-thin seatstays Gerard helped introduce to frame design with the Cervélo R3 also help with keeping the frontal area small. They even get a micro-aero treatment.

OPEN B.A.R.
(Break All Rules)

One-piece bar-stems look nice and can be light, but lack adjustability. Enter the OPEN B.A.R., with its closed-form 100% carbon composite design. No threaded inserts or vertical cut for the clamping bolts, just continuous fibers for the best weight, stiffness & strength.

Even better, our patented internal clamp system lets you adjust stem length by 15mm in 5mm steps. Often you can even adjust the length without undoing the brake hoses.

With 10 different bars, there is always one perfect for you. Welcome to the OPEN B.A.R. Cheers!

We love fork design. Tire clearance, steering geo, aero, compliance, cargo, braking efficiency - it's all there.

U.P.|U.P.PER. 2.0 offers 2 fork options in 5 sizes.

The continuous seattube means you do not have an area where a seatpost is inserted into the seattube and clamped. Such an area of overlapping tubes would effectively double the material and kill the compliance.
For those worried about travel with a seatmast, don't be. The Scion Aerocomfort 3.0 is our all-time favorite bag, it fits the MIN.D. up to 80cm saddle height with saddle installed (85cm with saddle removed. You don't even have to turn or remove the bars and it fits all your gear!

U-Turn Adventure cargo options

Option 1: (Apidura fork) bag with integrated straps
Option 2: Soft bag with (Voile) straps
Option 3: Cargo or Bottle cage using the included cargo barrels

If we have to characterize what OPEN means to us in one word, it’s freedom. Ultimately that is the feeling we get when riding our bikes, and we hope you do too. For us personally, OPEN also represents freedom in a different way, free from the usual pressures of the (bike) business, of “new and improved” product launches and sales targets.

A couple of years ago, it was time to evaluate how things were going. Freedom is still our guiding star and with everything that was happening in the world at that time (and still continues today), we concluded that freedom needs to permeate everything we do at OPEN.  While we are under no illusion that a tiny bike company can change the world, we simply didn't want to support anything "un-free" anymore.

Concretely this means our new designs will be “Made in Freedom” in countries such as Portugal, Italy and Taiwan. Of course production costs are higher that way, we don’t really care (free from the pressures of the bike industry, remember?).

and a not unimportant bonus, it led us to working with  CarbonTeam, who makes incredibly high-quality frames with QC systems I have not seen elsewhere in the industry. So truly a win-win.

To be very clear, we do this because WE want to do this. We hope you agree, but it's totally fine if you don't. This is not a virtue competition, everybody should run their lives and businesses as they see fit.

Geometry

The new fine-tuned geometry provides even more agile handling and is very consistent across the size range.
For current OPEN riders, you will normally keep the same size but with a 10mm shorter stem (as the frame is 10mm longer in effective reach (slightly different from standard reach).
