BOTD: TURQUOISE IS BACK BUT SOMEHOW ALSO NOT - AGAIN?

Andy Kessler - 25-Sep-2020
I am not sure if you are aware that most of the leading sports car brands like Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini all started with a line up of tractors... and then started to build supercars. I guess we do it the other way around! We start to build tractors now..

We had a request from a German magazine to build the chunkiest WI.DE. bike. I can't tell you more yet but it's gonna be a fun test promised. I know some people will say that's too much but wait and see... I will share then the review once its done.

With this blog I start a new category it is called the Bike Of The Day. Seriously the last couple of months have been crazy. It is nice to see gravel as a category growing and so does our brand. But it was - and still is very hard to keep up with demand. I know that sounds like a total luxury problem as we all know that a lot of businesses are suffering. But we try to be very professional in what we do and always have good stock levels...And most important not disappoint people.

The last limited edition of the  WI.DE. frameset in turquoise sold out in 24 hours. Maybe this one will go even faster... that's why instead of a Bike Of The Month I call this a bike/frameset of the day (or better half day).

That's why I am publishing this blog when Europe is still awake, America is too and over in the Pacific the early birds may already be getting some worms. If you want a turquoise WI.DE. go here (and select turquoise for the color) or contact your local OPEN dealer.

Hej Andy,
great, my color. I assume it‘s the exact Yeti turquoise again, right? Unfortunately I cannot order. There seems to be a bug in the online store. When choosing the frame, Qty shoes 0 and I can‘t check-out.

Hi Torben, can you try. I logged in from Switzerland and it worked from here. You should end up at the WIDE frames set and then you need to scroll down in the color section and select turquoise. send me a mail if it doesn't not work and I reserve you one: andy@opencycle.com

So I’m curious because what I’ve been looking for is 700 C in 2.5”. When you say chunky I’m assuming that’s what you’re doing or maybe even bigger is this going to be available for sale?

Hi Jock, 700 in 2.5 will not work. The maximum is 46mm for 700C.

Either you guys missed my WIDE when I posted it, or maybe you're using it for inspiration: https://opencyc...28643
Those are Maxxis 27.5 x 2.35" tires, but with the 35mm inside width rims I'm using they measure to an actual 2.52mm wide. Doesn't get much chunkier than that : )
Love the bike. I sold my old hardtail and the WIDE is now my primary mountain bike, with gravel duties as an occasional distraction.

Hi Rich, your bike looks fantastic I have seen that and love it. We had a very clear specification list for this one that we had to match as close as possible. When you will see the final review of the magazine all will start to make sense. happy trails

Nice one, though a bit bold for me. Any plans to bring back the classic OPEN brown again for the WI.DE anytime soon? And if not: who does the original paint jobs on the OPENs and what would it need to convince that person (aka cost) to do a brown WI.DE?
