BOTM: The Simple MIND - part 2

Andy Kessler - 08-Jun-2021
After the intro video in the first part of "The Simple MIN.D." blog,  here we go with the beauty shots.

As mentioned last time, we have stock of the 1x MIN.D. frames and can also organise you an EKAR drivetrain if you are based in the USA.  Why make your live complicated, change your MIN.D. and live simply....

Hi, what's your opinion on the Classified hub? Would you suggest using it on a Mind 1x?

I have not ridden it sorry. I never judge something I have not ridden personally...

Great pics, and love the color way. For someone who embraced the “simple” life early with the Open UP, 1x, and two sets of wheels for road and off-road...what would the MIND offer?

I have had my open mind frame since February but still waiting for my Campy electronic 12 speed…my local Campy distributor is expecting his EKAR shipment in early July and still not sure when the ordered set will arrive…should I go EKAR?

Which EKAR gear ratio option did you choose for your Min.d and why?

My ideal ratio is the 9-36, but I live in Amsterdam so not a lot of climbing. Andy even put 9-42 on his road bike, maybe a bit overkill but it means you can climb everything AND still have a massive gear downhill as that's a bigger range than most 2x drivetrains offer.

Hi Pete, Gerard is right I want to have this 1:1 ratio for climbing. I had that also on my 2x drivetrain with a 46-33 and 10-33 in the back. Some 20% climbs here and unfortunately not getting younger....

Down tube storage. I love the Open WI.DE frame. And when I look at I wonder if you ever considered adding storage in the down tube. Seems like a very practical solution for carrying the basic stuff for every ride. Any thoughts about it? Thanks. m.

Hi Martin, totally see where you are coming from. We are always thinking about new things. Some of them come into production frames others not. Thanks for the feedback

Hi. I’ve got an Upper and an Enve seat post cannot seem to figure out why it creaks/clicks when I am seated and pedaling hard. It’s definitely not the BB as it’s silent when I stand. Tried everything with carbon paste etc. Even swapped to another clamp to test. Could it be the di2 battery pack? Or something else I should be aware about?

And it's not the rails? You may want to try wrapping the rails with some electrical tape? Or swap out the saddle as it could be where the rails attach to the deck as well?

Hi Gerard, Andy,
I recently built my Open UP and had a road tire blow off an Enve AR SES 4.5 wheel. What is you opinion of hooked vs straight wall rims? Do you see the industry following Zipp and Enve with straight wall rims for road applications?

Hi Brian, of course its difficult to give a general answer as each rim is individual. But low pressure =hookless, high pressure with hooks. But at the end each setup needs to be tested and confirmed by the rim maker. Hope that helps a bit
