BOTM: WI.DE. DETOUR - part 2

Andy Kessler - 18-Sep-2019
In the last Detour blog I combined part 1and 2 as we have for the first time a 90 day leadtime to produce all items of this edition and an order window that closes very soon this coming weekend.

My goal was to give you as much as possible information so you can make a decision. The only thing missing which is somehow not Detour Edition related are the detail specifications. Here they come:

frame WI.DE. Detour Ltd
headset Cane Creek 40
fork OPEN U-Turn
stem  ENVE Road stem carbon black,  90
handlebar ENVE Road cpt drop carbon black, 44
handlebar grip Fizik Tempo Microtex black
seatpost ENVE zero offset 27.2 x 350
saddle Brooks Cambium C13 custom
brakes Shimano GRX
shifters Shimano GRX
crank  Shimano GRX
BB Rotor 4624
chainrings Shimano 42
front and rear derailleur Shimano GRX
cassette Shimano XT CS-M8000
chain Shimano CN-HG701
wheel ENVE G27
tire WTB Trail Boss 27.5x 2.4

...and yes of course our matching song this time called Detour from Hank Thompson - listen carefully to the lyrics it is a perfect match!

Why is it that standard front/rear rack-mounted panniers are not used anymore?

Hi Pete, its not that they are not used anymore it is just a different philosophy. It is more bike packing light with a sleeping bag or sleeping in a bed rather than carry 20kg/40 pounds of equipment with you. Traveling light makes you go fast....

Because this bike is not designed with the intent of being a loaded tourer. Same reason why most road bikes are not designed to use a suspension fork. It’s not part of the design, or the bike’s primary intended use purpose.

Hoi Andy
I understand that the song needs some reference to Detour, but it is so boring. For me your bike is more like https://youtu.b...
Best
