Here we go again. This years
Cape Epic is on. In the last years OPEN ambassadors have been quiete successful in this race. For the last two years we had the Assos Werksmannschaft and a mixed team from France on the start line. With two podiums at the end of the race in 2015 we were more than happy with the results. For more details check our
blog of the 2015 Cape Epic.
For us it is not about the results as one of our philosophies from the start was not to do classic sponsoring, as we do not believe in it. For us it is about great people and their stories. Those are the athletes we are interested in supporting in their mission. If we see those passionate brand ambassadors winning they really deserve it as they do it because they have fun racing and not because of the paycheck.
This year the first day of the Epic was even better. Jeff our French OPEN ambassador did it again: podium but this time not one the side but right in the middle. Thanks to Jeff and Fanny for making this incredible effort and ending up in the leader Jersey.
Another team to watch is the one of our good friends Jakes and Kevin. Kevin is the founder of the Cape Epic and Jakes is his riding buddy. I know very well how much they will suffer in the next days. It is simple: A pro rider only suffers 4 to 5 hours a day but then people that have to do a “normal” job for a living and can not spend 20 hours a week in training and preparation, they suffer 7 to 10 hours each day. That makes their effort even bigger and they are the real heroes of the Epic.
At least at the start they looked pretty fresh and relaxed...
