The Crossfondue

Andy Kessler - 25-Jan-2017
The Crossfondue is an event I had in my mind since a while - in fact more than 2 years.

As Gerard mentioned in his live stream session of last week we want to do a couple of OPEN Owner's rides this year. We have a lot of ideas of what we could do but there is just one problem: us. We have been very busy building up OPEN in the last 4 years and the fact that Gerard now lives near New York does not really help to have us both at the same spot. Most of the time we are together we do not even have time for a short ride as we want to use the time we have efficiently.

Now finally it will happen. The first "Mini"-OPEN-Owners ride. We know it is short notice and we know it might be not good timing for everybody but we just want to have a start now. Sunday 26th of February we meet at 9am at our new Swiss office in Basel for the Crossfondue. The Crossfondue is a 5-6 hour gravel/mud and/or snow ride depending on the weather conditions. After the ride everybody is invited for a typical swiss fondue.

You would need to register until February 1st with Andy (contact button on the left) so we know how many people we can expect. Basel is easy to get to, either by car or through its airport that is serviced by most of the low-cost and many of the main carriers. We can also organize a hotel for those who want to arrive the day before or stay after the ride. More and detailed info will follow for everybody that has signed U.P.

Come join us on a one scenic ride my backyard.

If you can not make it this time our next ride in Switzerland is fixed for May 7th.

Oh, and in case it wasn't clear: Cross + Granfondo + Fondue = Crossfondue

Looking forward to the NY version. I hereby nominate Gerard to host, now that he is apparently a New Yorker. ;-)

:(
Looks like I'm out - have conflicts for both dates. It's a little more tricky to get out to there for someone living in Singapore ;)
In any case, hope to join ya'll at some other point in the near future...Have fun!

What a great idea!
I know that this is quite early for detailed questions, but anyway, I need some more info, before I can decide whether to join in or not.
The U.P. can be ridden on a lot of MTB tracks, but still is not an MTB like the ONE. Especially uphill, since my U.P. has 2x11 SRAM with 36x32 as a smallest gear. So will there be different tracks? Maybe even different levels (as I do not want to slow down all the Pros *g*)?

Hi Joey, this will not be a race - also there will always be people that want to go fast.... We will make sure that we have different groups. 36/32 should be fine. Best is to bring your Garmin then you can upload the route and everybody can ride at his own speed and does not get lost

I will be there. Working out the logistics of travel but it looks good. I purchased the Open U.P. Just last week from endurancewerx in NYC. I am definitively not ready for cyclecross but eager as a beaver to get started. Please provide me with recommendations on where to stay... let's have some fun!

You mean the CrossFondue? Yes, there will definitely be a 2018 Crossfondue, but we're not sure of the date yet. We'll announce it in the newsletter as soon as we can.
