OPEN E.Y.E. : BUSTART
BustArt: the artist behind this project
BustArt is a neo-pop artist who likes to tear characters and icons apart from their original context and provide a broader sense through new compositions. He uses self-taught techniques to create Graffiti pop works using these cartoon characters.
I really love his work, especially his huge walls that he paints all around the world. And I love his atelier. It is that kind of magic place where you get inspiration in every little corner from his work but also from all the little toys, paintings and other cool stuff.
Michel: ultra distance racer
Michel has successfully completed several long distance races including Transcontinental. But his mind is not only off into the distance, but he is very much connected to the local Basel art scene. When he contacted me to become an OPEN ambassador it was very obvious from the start that he wants to "lose his mind" designing a one-of-a-kind MIN.D.
For later this year, we have a plan to do an art-ride to show more of the local sub-culture artists and not the ones exhibiting at the famous Basel Art Show.
The journey Basel to Berlin
BustArt had a big upcoming art project in Berlin: Painting a huge wall that took him several days.
Michel had the idea to go and see him there. But the 800km journey was to short for a guy that finished the Transcontinental so he decided to go and see all the art projects from BustArt that he could find in Germany. At the end both suffered from the cold and wet conditions but at the same time they pushed each other to finish the project.
