General
After last weeks intro video of the ROADIE U.P.P.E.R. here some more information and the famous gallery with the detail shots.
I got quite a bit of questions about this build and the WHY. As I mentioned, this bike belongs to the doctor who repairs my joints every couple of years. And he has a good collections of OPENs (actually I lost the overview but at least a Classic UP and a ONE+ beside the UPPER) He likes subtle, understated bikes, so he was smitten with the UPPER as soon as he saw it.
This build allows him the best of both worlds, he has a road bike that is absolutely without compromise, in weight, stiffness and functionality. Then, all he has to do is change wheels to explore the off-road world (and as we all know, once you try that, you're sold, there is no turning back).
Highlight of the parts package are the MCFK parts and wheels. I think MCFK is actually one of the very few German lightweight brands (beside THM and bike-ahead) that builds super lightweight stuff that you can recommend without hesitation. Martin Fuhrmann the man behind the brand has been a downhill racer a couple of years ago and understands very well that light is good but durability is as important. Thats also why most of his parts have a 100kg weight limit and wheels up to 125kg.
So the bottomline is that it's a light build but a very reliable build at the same time. I have been using the same set of wheels with 38mm off-road tires and was extremely happy with them. What you can also see in the picture with the close up of the rear disc rotor is how to convert you U.P.P.E.R. or NEW U.P. frame to a 160 rotor in the back. The adapter plate that you would need for that is Shimano SM-MAR160 D/D.
Here comes the gallery and in next week's blog we'll finally list the detail specifications that some of you are desperately waiting for.
