Riding & Racing at top speedUP|UPPER 2.0
10 years after the OPEN U.P. defined the performance gravel bike, we have perfected it
Highlights.
What others say
Road.cc: The U.P. 2.0 is aimed at the performance end of the gravel bike spectrum, focusing on low weight, stiffness and aerodynamics, and it doesn’t disappoint! The U.P. 2.0 literally feels like a road race bike for off-road.
The Open just generally feels very quick everywhere. My main gravel route uses a lot of wide-open hardpacked tracks, with odd sections of singletrack and technical descending chucked in. The U.P. 2.0 is one of those bikes that feels perfectly designed for both, with no compromises anywhere. This might all sound a bit gushy, but I can’t really think how else to describe it. It’s just one of those bikes that feels brilliant to ride. The U.P. 2.0 really does get a glowing reference. I can’t actually fault it.

The Radavist: When the Open Up launched in 2015, it helped usher in a world of bigger tire clearance on carbon bikes. One of the first fledgling “gravel” models, the Up has long been a paradigm pusher. Well, the brand has done it again with its Open Up 2.0 Adventure, with a Portugal-made chassis and an all-new U-Turn Adventure Fork, which sports slots for cargo straps.

GranFondo Magazine: A specialist for hilly terrain and fast gravel rides. With its low system weight, heavily climbing-oriented geometry and direct, road bike-like drive, it’s aimed at riders who prioritise efficiency and lightness over maximum off-road reserves.
With the U.P.PER. CONCE.PT, OPEN didn’t want to launch yet another gravel bike, but to make a technical statement, and that’s exactly what they achieved. The strictly exclusive concept model clearly shows where the brand is heading in terms of design language, manufacturing and ride character. Many of the ideas first sketched out here can now be found in the new generation of U.P. 2.0 and U.P.PER 2.0 models. If you love hilly gravel routes, appreciate light-footed handling and are looking for a purist, technically precise performance bike, the CONCE.PT embodies this philosophy, and the new models offer a realistic way to get very close to it.

GuyKesTV: One of the finest multi-surface machines I have ever piloted. A low weight to accelerate, high comfort to hold the gear and that slim front end to minimize resistance. This is a proper rocket ship for the real world. What’s really remarkable about how smooth and composed it feels, even over random cobbly farm tracks, is the fact that in this build I’ve only got 40 (millimeter tires) on here and they feel at least like I’ve got 45s in here, if not bigger. Given how clean, fast and smooth it feels on these 40s, with obviously a weight and aero advantage, what seems like a problem on paper (max tire clearance of 46mm) is much less of a problem practically. It lays power down really, really smoothly, even on rooty, rocky terrain. Undoubtedbly one of the best all-road gravel bikes I’ve ever ridden.

Cyclist: The Upper pedals superbly, feeling stiff under steady efforts along champagne gravel and responsive to surges of power to get up rises or through loose stones or sticky mud. [The design details are] all simple stuff really but it’s brilliantly effective, soaking up road buzz and blunting big hits on trails without adding weight or detracting from the bike’s lively ride.
Kessler and Vroomen have done it again – if the first UP set the bar, then the second one has raised it, and will be the benchmark against which I’ll need to measure every fast gravel bike I ride from now on.

FeedTheHabit: We all love an underdog and OPEN has been quietly making some of the most rider-focused gravel bikes on the market with a cult-like following. That following is certainly not misguided as every OPEN I’ve ridden has left an indelible impression on me.
The OPEN B.A.R. system is stupendous. My initial hesitation, due to the proprietary bits, has gone by the wayside because the shape and feel of the bar/stem is my favorite gravel shape ever. That shallow drop and ergo shaping puts these bars over the top and allows me to get into just the right position for climbs, rolling terrain, snaky singletrack and tricky descents.
For riders who want a lightweight, minimalist, all-road specialist that feels balanced, nimble and undeniably quick, the UPPER 2.0 stays true to the UPPER's roots and delivers a boatload of fun on all types of gravel.

VeloVert (fr): The flex and forgiving rear triangle that have been the hallmark of the Open range for many years are still present. And we were "only" running 44mm tires, which, it must be said, performed very well. No punctures to report (always a risk on a course like the Roc Gravel) and good grip on gravel that was sometimes quite loose in corners. With such advantages, our U.P. 2.0 inspired a lot of confidence. The handlebar shape is really comfortable, and you naturally place your hands in the drops.
During a 2.5-hour race, during which we didn't switch off, we got a glimpse of the bike's potential. It's impressive, and the experience leaves you with sensations you can only get on a bike like this. So yes, if you can afford an Open U.P. 2.0, there's little chance you'll be disappointed by its performance.

Vojomag (fr): Open designs bikes with a clear design philosophy, and that's a good thing! It's not the most comfortable, and there are gravel bikes more at ease on technical terrain, but it's an incredibly fast, light, and high-performing machine that will satisfy those who want to make every ride a unique experience.
Because the Open U.P. 2.0 isn't just ridden, it's piloted, it's experienced, and it gives you a thrill with every acceleration, every twisty section, every straightaway where you can unleash your power.
3 versions
The UP 2.0 family comes in three versions, from pure race machine to fully bikepacking-ready — with the same trademark OPEN handling throughout.
- UPPER 2.0: Superlight frame, aero fork. Rivnuts for a toptube bag and BB bag or toolbox.
- UP 2.0: Aero fork, three extra rivnuts under the toptube for a strapless frame bag (custom bag makers supported; dedicated bag coming end 2026).
- UP 2.0 Adventure: All the above frame cargo options plus the comfort cargo fork with slots for the world's lightest bag attachment — no cage required.
Aero where it matters,
Comfort where it counts.
Aero matters most up-front (headtube, fork, bars, downtube), where airflow is still smooth. But aero is moot if the bike is too harsh to stay aero yourself on long rides. We optimize aero and compliance together, through tube design and carbon layup.
As we go further back on the frame, comfort always beats aero. The seattube, chainstay & seatstay shapes ensure the comfort OPEN is known for. As a bonus, the ultra-thin seatstays keep the frontal area small. They even get a micro-aero treatment.
OPEN BAR
(Break All Rules).
One-piece bar-stems look nice and can be light, but lack adjustability. Enter the OPEN BAR With our patented internal clamp system, you can adjust stem length by 15mm in 5mm steps, so twice as precise as any other setup and you don't even have to swap the stem (or in most cases, undo the brake hoses).
Our internal clamp also allows for a closed-form 100% carbon composite design. No threaded inserts or vertical cut for the clamping bolts, just continuous fibers for the best weight, stiffness & strength.
With 10 different bars (and the 4 stem lengths inside each one), there is always a perfect BAR for you.
Note: Previous generation OPEN frame riders will usually convert to the same frame size of the UP|UPPER 2.0 with a 10mm shorter stem to compensate for the 10mm longer effective frame reach (ignore standard reach in the geometry chart for this purpose). So keep that in mind when selecting your OPEN BAR size.
Fork options.
We love fork design. Tire clearance, steering geo, aero, compliance, cargo, braking efficiency - it's all there.
UP|UPPER 2.0 offers 2 fork options in 5 sizes.
U-Turn Adventure cargo options
Design is in the details.
Made In Freedom
If we have to characterize what OPEN means to us in one word, it’s freedom. Ultimately that is the feeling we get when riding our bikes, and we hope you do too.
For us personally, OPEN also represents freedom in a different way, free from the usual pressures of the (bike) business, of “new and improved” product launches and sales targets.
A few years ago, seeing everything that was happening in the world, we concluded that freedom needs to permeate everything we do at OPEN. While we are under no illusion that a tiny bike company can change the world, we simply didn't want to support anything "un-free" anymore. So we decided to move all our production to countries that score well in various democracy rankings (The Economist Democracy Index, Freedom House's Freedom in the World report).
To be very clear, we do this because WE want to do this. We hope you agree, but it's totally fine if you don't. This is not a virtue competition, everybody should run their lives and businesses as they see fit. The UP|UPPER 2.0 frames are built in Portugal.

OPEN A.I.R. Geometry: Agile | Integrated | Refined
A.I.R. is OPEN's approach to making rider and bike work as one: agile steering that feels lively on any terrain, integrated components that work together with the frame geometry as a system, and superior adjustment options to refine your position for both comfort and aerodynamics.
As gravel riding evolves, so does OPEN's approach to fit. The new frames are slightly longer and taller than their predecessors, reflecting how riders are pushing harder and further.
The steering geometry follows a consistent OPEN principle: the bike should feel as agile and lively as a road bike, despite running much larger, profiled tires. It's an often-overlooked ingredient — but essential on mixed terrain. Every size UP 2.0 frame has its own geometry and tube shapes; every fork size is also individually tweaked to deliver that trademark OPEN handling at every size.
Note: Previous generation OPEN frame riders will usually convert to the same frame size of the UP|UPPER 2.0 with a 10mm shorter stem to compensate for the 10mm longer effective frame reach (ignore standard reach in the geometry chart for this purpose). This also applies when you switch from the original UP|UPPER to a WIDE 2.0 or from the original WIDE to an UP|UPPER 2.0.
Note: The WIDE 2.0 has a more relaxed geometry than the UP|UPPER 2.0, so it is ideal for riders who sit a little bit higher in the front.
