OPEN X PPEEQQ COLLAB
The brief nobody writes down
There's a particular kind of cyclist who notices things other people ride past. Not just the gradient of the climb or the texture of the road surface — but the way light changes in the last hour before dusk, the way a wet descent compresses your field of vision, the way your kit and your bike and your glasses either feel like a coherent whole or like a collection of objects that ended up in the same place by accident.
The OPEN YOUR EYES collaboration exists for that cyclist. And it started with a question most brands never think to ask: what would it take to make a bike and a pair of glasses look like they were born from the same sketch? There's a version of a collab brief that's easy to write. Take brand A, take brand B. Put both logos on the product. Call it a limited edition. Done. That's not what happened here. The starting point for OPEN YOUR EYES was a shared mission: that two products occupying the same moment in a rider's life — on the same ride, in the same light, at the same speed — should feel like they were designed together. Not like two independent purchases. Not inspired by each other. Not colour-matched from a Pantone chip. The same finish.
Two frames, two materials, one finish.
A bike frame and an eyewear frame share a name and almost nothing else.
OPEN builds in carbon fibre in our new Portugal factory. PPEEQQ builds its frames in Italy from a plant-based polyamide derived from castor beans, a bio-sourced material with its own mechanical properties and its own relationship to colour. Getting both surfaces to carry the same finish required close coordination between two production teams working across different countries and materials. It wasn't easy. That's precisely the point.
Both brands operate at the premium end of their markets. That positioning isn't just about price — it's about the refusal to treat material, finish, and detail as afterthoughts. When two brands at that level commit to sharing a finish across different products made from different materials in different factories, it says something about how seriously they take the work.
What you get in this collab?
In selected dealerships, the OPEN U.P. 2.0 and PPEEQQ glasses will be presented as a single concept: one finish, one visual identity, one complete design statement. It's the kind of display that almost never happens in cycling retail, where bikes and eyewear live in different corners of the shop floor. Here, it becomes something closer to an exhibition. What you get is two objects designed to be seen together. You can either get a frameset only with the glasses or build a complete bike with our SRAM/ZIPP part kits. Interested in this collab ? Contact your local OPEN dealer or andy@opencycle.com.
The frame is actually with a clearcoat with fading colour pigments. So in daylight you can actually still see the technical structure/different carbon patches underneath the sparkling paint.
Ah yes almost forgot about the price. Retail for the custom painted frameset including cockpit and seatpost and a pair of the limited PPEEQQ glasses are 4650 EUR/US$/CHF.
Hi I already have an open up so looking to replace the frame. I notice in the pic of the new bike there are bolts on the underside of the top tube but not visible on the unpainted frame? Is there a UK stockist in London that will have the frame on display? Thanks Don
