This weekend a special race took place in Bend, Oregon: The Single Steed Quiver Killer cycling challenge where a rider is challenged to ride a single bicycle over a diverse 85- mile course featuring pavement and single track.
So far the "Best of Both" has been a race where you switch bikes.

When Dominic Phipps (race director) and David from local OPEN shop Crows Feet Commons contacted me I thought this race can also be done on one single bike that's exactly what the WI.DE. is made for and we quickly decided to add one more category.

Here is what Dominic says about the race:

The Single Steed category at The Best of Both was inspired by the release of the OPEN WI.DE and a conversation that developed between Andy Kessler, David Marchi from Bend's local Open Cycles dealer; Crows Feet Commons, and myself , the race director of The Best of Both bike race, earlier this year. With gravel in the ascendency as a bike racing category, the temptation to add a gravel section to the Best of Both 2019 course was an option. But, when Andy shared Open’s new model, the WI.DE (for Winding Detours) with us and suggested that it may very well be the ultimate bike to race on our road and single track course from start to finish, The Single Steed Quiver Killer category was born from inspiration. Our course remains β€œMixed Terrain,” and features no gravel at all; only rural pavement, and single track.Β
